Acceptable Use Policy

TL;DR
  • Use Tonos to write as yourself — not to impersonate others without consent
  • No spam, phishing, harassment, or illegal content generation
  • Don't circumvent rate limits or abuse the API
  • Violations may result in immediate account termination

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") supplements our Terms of Service and governs how you may use the Tonos voice profile service. By using the Service, you agree to these rules. This AUP expands on the prohibited uses listed in Section 5 of our Terms.

Permitted Uses

Tonos is designed to help you communicate more efficiently and authentically. You may use the Service to:

  • Build a voice profile from your own writing samples
  • Draft messages, emails, and professional outreach in your own voice
  • Integrate Tonos via REST API or MCP into your own tools and workflows
  • Generate content on behalf of another person with their documented written consent
  • Use the Service within the credit and rate limit allocations of your plan

Prohibited Uses

Impersonation and fraud

You may not use Tonos to:

  • Impersonate any person without their prior documented written consent
  • Generate content designed to deceive recipients about who authored it
  • Create fake identities or fraudulent personas
  • Forge communications or misrepresent the source of messages
  • Produce deepfakes or voice-cloned content for deceptive purposes

Impersonation policy: If you are generating content in someone else's voice (e.g., assisting an executive or client), you must obtain and retain documented written consent. If we receive a credible complaint that content was generated without consent, we will investigate and may suspend your account pending review.

Consent documentation requirements

Written consent must be specific and informed. The consenting person must understand that their writing samples will be used to create an AI voice profile, that AI-generated content will be produced in their writing style, and the purposes for which such content will be used. Consent must be in writing (email, signed document, or equivalent verifiable record). Verbal consent alone is not sufficient. You must retain this documentation for as long as you use the profile and provide it to us upon request if we investigate a complaint.

Voice and likeness rights

In jurisdictions that recognize rights of publicity or personality — including but not limited to Tennessee under the ELVIS Act, California under Civil Code 3344, and New York under Civil Rights Law 50-51 — a person's writing voice may be protected as a component of their identity. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of Tonos complies with applicable right-of-publicity laws.

Spam and phishing

You may not use Tonos to:

  • Generate bulk unsolicited commercial messages (spam)
  • Create phishing emails, smishing messages, or social engineering attacks
  • Produce mass outreach that violates CAN-SPAM, GDPR, or similar laws
  • Automate outreach at volumes that constitute harassment or abuse

Harmful and illegal content

You may not use Tonos to generate content that:

  • Is threatening, harassing, hateful, or abusive
  • Violates any applicable local, state, national, or international law
  • Infringes on intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights
  • Facilitates or promotes illegal activities
  • Targets minors with harmful or inappropriate material

API and system abuse

You may not:

  • Circumvent, bypass, or manipulate rate limits or credit restrictions
  • Create multiple accounts to obtain additional free trial credits
  • Resell or sublicense access to the Service without written permission
  • Share API keys publicly or embed them in client-side code
  • Use the Service to build a product that directly competes with Tonos
  • Reverse engineer the Service's AI models or prompt structures
  • Attempt to extract, scrape, or harvest other users' data
  • Interfere with the Service's infrastructure, stability, or availability

Enforcement

We monitor for AUP violations through automated signals and user reports. If we determine that you have violated this policy:

  • Minor violations: We may issue a warning and require corrective action within 14 days
  • Moderate violations: We may suspend your account pending investigation
  • Severe or repeated violations: We may terminate your account immediately without notice or refund

We reserve the right to make enforcement decisions at our discretion. If you believe a decision was made in error, contact us within 30 days at max@tonos.fyi.

Reporting Abuse

If you believe someone is using Tonos to impersonate you or generate harmful content using your voice, please report it immediately at max@tonos.fyi. Include as much detail as possible. We investigate all credible abuse reports. See also our DMCA & Abuse Reporting page.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the updated AUP.
